Male’, the capital of the Maldives, may have the distinction of being one of the larger islands in the archipelago. It is known as a bustling place of paved streets, piped desalinated water and ten-storey apartment blocks. Its unpaved coral streets and the intricate leafy lanes, crowd with people and with bicycles, cars, motorcycles and trucks. This is the centre of the country; this is where it all happens.
Majority of visitors visit Male’ for a short shopping excursion or to visit some places of interest, like the historical mosques and museums. It is quite possible to walk from one end of Male’ to the other end in 30 minutes. It is handy to bring a map along to navigate Male’s streets and alleys.
